TC-9: Committee on Mine Geo-disaster on Ecological Restoration

History and Background

Due to the substantial planning and development of resource extraction, the risk of mine geo-disaster (e.g. landslide), mine safety (e.g. rock bursts) and ecological environment problems (e.g. soil pollution, erosion) is becoming increasingly relevant, as they may jeopardize the safety of mine and cause immense economic losses. The increasing depth of mining and extensive disturbance induce many geo-disasters, including landslides, ground fissures, collapses, and rock bursts, coal bursts, and water, mud, or sand inrush. These geo-disasters cause the emergence of engineering geological challenges of mine engineering, and threaten the mine safety. Another serious problem is ecological damage induced by mining, including soil pollution, erosion, land occupation and vegetation destruction. therefore, it is urgent to build a global communicating platform for academic and industrial communities to jointly ensure the development of mine geo-disaster and ecological restoration, promote the restoration of mine ecological environment, and technological innovation and green and efficient mining.

Aims and Perspectives

The main objectives of this committee are to reduce and prevent mine geo-disaster; promote the restoration of mine ecological environment; promote integration academic and industrial communities; promote technological innovation and green and efficient mining; encourage all participants to facilitate tight cooperation between international organizations, global stakeholders, local and regional governments, universities and scientific academies, and advanced enterprises.
