TC-12: Committee on AI-Enabled Geohazard Risk Reduction

Aims and Perspectives

The committee’s purpose is to unite global expertise to harness artificial intelligence (AI) in addressing geohazard risks, with a focus on early geohazard identification, risk assessment, geohazard monitoring, and intelligent decision support. Its mission is to establish an international platform integrating AI and geoscience to advance understanding, prediction, early warning, and control of both natural and human-induced geohazards. Core objectives include clarifying geohazard development and failure characteristics through AI–mechanism driven analysis; developing AI-enhanced systems for early hazard detection, risk evaluation, and multi-source monitoring; conducting AI-integrated experiments to reveal hazard-triggering mechanisms and controlling parameters; building AI-powered numerical simulations and digital twins to predict the spatial–temporal evolution of hazardous processes; realizing large-scale geohazard data fusion and AI-enabled virtual reality for risk assessment and early warning; and creating AI-supported strategies—including large language models tailored for geohazard prediction—to strengthen monitoring, enhance resilience, and improve disaster prevention and control.
